Zootopia Craft Challenge

I really like these Zootopia toys from Funko. They are blind bagged (you don’t know which one you’ll get until you open the box). So I decided I would get 3 and make a craft based on each of the characters I got. Sometimes they have more of some characters, but in this set you have an equal chance of getting each character. The only thing I’m disappointed about is that they didn’t include Gazelle in this set. These are the toys I got.

Mayor LionHeart, Yax, and Nick!

Mayor Lionheart was a little difficult for me to think up a craft at first because he doesn’t have a ton of screen time even though he is an important character. Then I saw a close up of him and he always wears a Z for Zootopia pin. So that is what I decided to make out of felt. Here is that pattern.   MayorPin

Yax Cupcakes and Necklace

Yax also doesn’t have much screen time, but he has a lot of cool accessories and there are a lot of interesting details in the Naturalist club he runs. I used his hair as inspiration for these cupcakes. I bought the little flowers at the grocery store, but you can make them out of royal icing. I used Wilton tip#21 with chocolate frosting for Yax’s “hair”. I started around the edge of the cupcake and worked in. I had the frosting hang over the wrapper on the edge.

Then I went around again and started in the center and worked to the outside.

I got many of these beads at my absolute favorite place to get beads, the Annual Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee, WI. It is billed as the largest show of it’s type in the world. I don’t know if that is still the case, but it is awesome and huge! You get great deals there as well. It is held for a week usually at the beginning of summer. The other place I get beads is FireMountainGems.com. The tassel is from the end of a strand of beads. When you buy semiprecious gemstone beads they usually come strung on a wire with tassels at the end. I always save those and one of the red ones came in handy for this project.

Right before Judy leaves for Zootopia her parents warn her about foxes and try to give her a care package full of  “Fox Away” products. You see the bag very briefly. It was so brief I had trouble getting a screen grab of it. I thought it was so cute though that I really wanted to make it. You can see the picture below.

RabbitBag

Bunny Bag

Here is my version. I used small drawstring bags, but you could enlarge this pattern and use a larger bag that has handles. The little bags I used didn’t have handles so I had to crochet some and sew them on. I folded the drawstring part of the bag inside of the larger bags so they were the correct shape. I cut the face details out of felt with this pattern. I couldn’t decide if I liked the smaller or the larger face on the bag so I have an example of both here.  BunnyBag

Fold the bag like this before sewing the handles on.

Sew the ears through both thicknesses of the bag so it will stay folded.

Inside of the bag are all the Fox Away products, but I thought that was too sad to make so I made “Fox Stay” labels that you can put on candy for the treat bag. Here is the pattern. It is in black and white so you need to color it in. This could be a party activity. FoxStay

IMG_4428        Here is the treat bag with a  Fox Stay mini M&M tube. I thought these little erasers were cute and would be good for treat bags since they are rabbits and foxes. The little container is cute, but I would probably split up the set among a few  treat bags because they are a little pricey. I got these (Kikkerland Woodlands Erasers, Set of 10 ) from Amazon.
