Flo’s V8 Cafe Dinner

Celebrate Cars 3 by making your own V8 Cafe Dinner!

Cars 3 is out in theaters now! I’ve read that the cars spend more time in Radiator Springs for this movie so I decided to use Flo’s V8 cafe as my inspiration for this dinner. Carsland in California Adventure is really cool, and my favorite part of the town is Flo’s. It has a really cute theme, and I love the neon sign outside and the colors inside the restaurant.

The tables have a V8 logo pattern that I have used as inspiration for my table. These V8 logos are just cut out of pink construction paper.

Flo’s sells milkshakes with “road gravel” on the top of them. I used little white, milk, and dark chocolate crispy ball decorations for my “gravel”. You can get these in regular grocery stores in Australia. I think in Carsland they also use crushed up Oreos. Maybe that is meant to be crumbled road? They sell pink, chocolate, and vanilla shakes. This one is pink because I added blended frozen raspberries to it.

Flo’s also sells a vegetable bake with mashed potatoes and cheese on top. There is some cheese on the top of these, but it is white so you can’t see it that well.

I just made mashed potatoes and then put them on top of frozen vegetables with a little bit of salt and butter. I waited until the potatoes browned a bit and then added some cheese and put it back in the oven until it was melted.

Flo’s also sells pies. I think they call them ugly pies, maybe because they have kind of free formed edges and don’t look like the ones with smooth tops. I think they look cool though. The ones at Flo’s have a crumble crust on top. I used a little star cookie cutter to cut out these retro looking stars from the pie crust dough to put on top of my apples. When I make apple pie I use a few different types of apples that I have peeled and then cut into slices. I add some sugar, cinnamon, and ginger and stir the apples around until they are coated with the sugar and spices. Then I just add them to the pie. I use Martha Stewart’s pie crust recipe, and I always use only butter. I have heard that it is easier to roll a crust made with Crisco replacing all or some of the butter in it, but I like the taste of an all butter crust better. Also, as a note for people in Australia, Crisco is really difficult to locate and it is very expensive. I just pat the pie crust into the bottom of my pie dishes instead of rolling it out. I rolled out a snake shape to put around the edge of this pie. This makes things go a lot quicker when you are making a pie. At my house, baked goods disappear in a matter of minutes, so I don’t like to spend a lot of time making them look perfect.

You may have noticed some little car charms on the table. They are from a key chain that I got from Carsland. Flo has a backstory about being in a singing group, The Motorama Girls. I assume they are from The Motor City (Detroit). I really like the style and color of these charms.
