Pin Box from set of 2 Blind Bagged Pins
Happy birthday to the Queen! -Of England, not Hearts, but the latter is the inspiration for this party. There is a new Alice movie in theaters now! If you liked the first live action Alice movie from Disney I think you will like too. I liked this one better than the first and once again the art direction was amazing and inspired me to throw a little party.
Time’s Hanging Pocket Watches
Time “is a he” in this movie and he lives in a clock. In one room he has a lot of pocket watches hanging on chains which I though would be a good decoration for a party. You can download the pattern with this link. AliceTTLG This Time character is a Funko Mystery Mini: Alice: Through The Looking Glass Hot Topic Exclusive – One Mystery Figure. These are blind bagged so you won’t know which one you will get, but I think they are all cute. I bought 2 of these. Here are Time and Cheshire Cat having tea.
Queen’s Vegetable Guard
The Queen of Hearts has a bunch of vegetable people who work for her in this movie. I think they are really interesting looking so I made one of their faces out of bok choy, tomatoes, baby lettuce, cooked asparagus, and baked potatoes.
Queen of Hearts Dinner
The hearts in this dinner are just hamburger meat formed into heart shapes before cooking. I spread some tomato paste on top of them after they were cooked so they looked red. They are sitting on a bed of vegetables, because the Queen’s new home looks like a mass of vegetation grown together. You can get the heart cookies from IKEA.
Ant Farm Cake
In case you haven’t seen the movie, I don’t want to say anything about this other than there is an ant farm in the movie and it looks like it is in a wooden picture frame. The “sand” in this ground up shortbread cookies, but I think it would also look and taste good with graham cracker crumbs. Graham crackers are not sold in Australia, so I needed an alternative. I used a drawing tip, leaf tip, and rose tip to make the patterns on the frame. I drew the pattern of the hat with a chop stick, but it didn’t stand out as much as I wanted so I just traced that with black frosting.
Bracelet Based on Hatter’s Sash
The Mad Hatter’s costume is really cool in both movies. I really like his sash made out of spools of thread and his pin cushion ring. You can buy a ring that looks almost exactly like the one he wears in the movie on Amazon made by Clover (Japan).
I made this bracelet by wrapping embroidery floss around little wooden spools , then attaching them to two pieces of chain with eye pins.
Decorate the Mad Hatter’s Hat
Most of the Disney and Pixar movies have red carpet premieres a few days before the movie is released with food and activities themed to the movies. They are kind of like a huge birthday party. I always like to see what Disney comes up with for these parties in pictures from the lucky people who attend them. At the Alice Through the Looking Glass premiere they had a table covered with white paper and outlines of hats that people could color in and add embellishments like feathers to. I thought that was a fun idea so I drew a hat that looked similar. The pattern for this is on the last slide of the download with the pocket watch patterns. You could just print one out for each guest or draw similar ones on a roll of paper that you put onto a table.
Tea Set Necklace
The little tea set I used for this is from Japan. There are lots of little miniature food and house ware blind boxed sets like this from Re-ment. My friend brought me back a set of little desserts when she was visiting Asia and I though it was awesome. It is one of my favorite gifts ever. You can buy these online from Modes4U. Modes4U has free international shipping if you spend over $68US, and they have lots of other cute things to help you get to that $68 spend. The series pictured below has a lot of tea cups, but not in every set so you are relying a little on the luck of the draw. I ordered 2 sets and got one with tea cups so that is what I used for these necklaces. How cute are some of those sets, though!?!
Re-ment Blind Boxed Miniature Dishes
I didn’t use all the pieces for necklaces, but the other pieces are great for kids old enough to know not to eat them for their dolls. I super glued the saucers to the cups and glued the lid onto the tea pot so they could stay together when being used as necklace charms. Then I just threaded the chain through the handles. You can get many different types of necklace chains online from Fire Mountain Gems, like the silver and black ones shown below.
