Last week I filled my post with food inspired by My Little Pony. This week I have some craft projects inspired by the series. In season 4 the ponies meet Pinkie Pie’s sister Maud. Maud is the opposite of Pinkie Pie and she loves rocks. Every year they make rock candy necklaces for each other.
Pinkie’s Rock Candy Necklace
I got various Swarovski crystals from FireMountainGems.com to make this necklace. You can use any of the “rock” shaped ones.
Cutie Mark Patterns
You can download these CutieMarks and color or design your own. I’ve tried to get most of the cutie marks from the main characters on these pages. You can use any of these to make the hair clips shown below. You may want to enlarge some of the patterns and simplify them (one apple or one butterfly for Applejack and Fluttershy for example) if you want to make a hair clip from them. There are some MLP related movies that star the ponies in an alternate dimension that some ponies have been banished to where they appear more like people. Some of the “Equestria Girls” wear hair clips like this in the movies. These little toys came from Kinder Surprise eggs that are available in Australia right now.
Cutie Mark Hair Clips
Cut out 2 of each shape that you want to make a hair clip of. Then sew a clip on the back of one piece.
I then sewed a ribbon for the string of Pinkie Pie’s balloon to the top of the piece sewn on to the hair clip. Then I sewed the two balloon pieces together. Using two pieces helps the felt keep it’s shape and hides the places where you’ve sewn embellishments and the clips on.
I added beads onto Rarity’s hair clip. Just string some beads onto the sewing thread and then sew them down. Repeat this process as you add the rest of the beads. It is a lot easier if you can find a thin needle so you can string the beads through the needle as well. I like to use Delica brand seed beads for this type of work because they are all of a uniform size unlike other brands that often have different hole sizes which makes it frustrating to do this type of work.
