Cartoon Saloon’s third movie takes place outside of Ireland. This movie is based on a book about a girl in modern day Afghanistan. It’s an amazing movie, but it does depict some harsh realities for the people living in Afghanistan, so it may be too confronting for small children. It is very beautiful just like Cartoon Saloon’s other movies.

Food is shown quite often in this movie. In the market scenes I saw kabobs, candy, naan, and fruit. The family in the movie ate raisins, naan, and rice with beans and carrots. I made this dish with honey, cinnamon, cumin, and onions. You could also add red pepper flakes and/or minced garlic.

Parvana, the main character in the movie, tells a fairy tale to her little brother and her friend throughout the movie. In the story, the protagonist must find something that soothes, shines, and ensnares.
