This post took a while to get together, but I finally finished everything! I made a bit of a twist on the scarf craft. I just made the bags like you would make a hat, but I just added enough rows to make the bag as tall as I wanted. The house patches are available from Amazon. I was going to get pins instead, but they didn’t ship to my location. I kind of like the way they turned out with the patches though. The golden snitches are Ferrero Rocher chocolates. The frogs are from Haighs chocolates. I think they look just like the ones in the movie and they taste great. The love potion is from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
This year my tree was Harry Potter themed. I loved the ornaments Pottery Barn Kids had last year. Unfortunately I was only able to get two of them. I made some ornaments to fill the tree out though.
First I got some keys (they aren’t real keys) from Fire Mountain Gems. Then I sewed felt on them for wings. I think the felt goes well with the other ornaments, but I also made some with ribbon that worked out pretty well.I made Doby also. I based the design off of some of the kawaii Harry Potter plush dolls that are being sold now. He was really simple to make and a nice addition to the tree.
There is “no melt ice cream” mentioned in the books and sold at the Harry Potter theme parks. I learned that it is frosting, so I made some of my own. I made it in really small containers because I a bowl full of just frosting is (maybe?) too much.
Another thing mentioned in the books and sold at the theme parks are cauldron cakes. At the park when you buy one it comes in a silicon container that you can bake more in. I couldn’t find a place to buy those anywhere, so I just made small cupcakes and wedged them into the little plastic cauldrons that are sold during Halloween. I got these at Daiso. I mixed sweet potatoes into the frosting to get the orange color, although I had to take the picture quickly because this frosting didn’t really hold it’s shape well.
You can make really easy cupcakes with golden snitches on them with Ferrero Rocher chocolates with wings attached to them. I drew these with gold sharpies.
I had some pumpkin juice which has apricot, pumpkin, apple, and pumpkin pie spices in it. It is really good. I used that as inspiration to make pumpkin juice pie! I didn’t add apricot puree to mine, but you could to try to recreate the tast of the juice. I have apples on the bottom and on the top to form the shape of the pumpkin.
In the second movie, much to Ron’s dismay, spiders play a large role in the plot. I made this spider on the top of my apple pie in honor of Aragog the spider. When I put it in the oven, the dough was right on top of the large pile of apples. As it baked the apples shrunk down, but the dough didn’t as much which created the raised appearance of the spider. I don’t know if that would happen again if I tried, but I like the way it turned out! The spiders are just regular plastic ones that I painted in glue and shook in a bag of black glitter. Quite a bit of the glitter will fall off if you handle them a lot, but they look cool for decaorations if you are just going to look at them.
