For a long time I did not cut it, but when I saw what looked like the Baudelaires, I just had to cut them out. Towards the back of the book there are plain dolls that you can customize to look like yourself and different backgrounds for the dolls. I got inspired to recreate the circus from the 9th book in the series,
The Carnivorous Carnival.

I decorated the tents in this picture to match the fortune teller’s and the “freaks’ ” tent from the book. I glued the two circus pages into a box to make a shadow box for this book. You can also store your paper dolls in the box. I also noticed that I could dress the Baudelaires up like their disguises in the book. Sunny is a wolf girl. I just cut an opening in the hedgehog doll to put Sunny’s head through to get her disguise. Violet and Klaus pretend to be conjoined twins. They are male in the book, but I think using the conjoined twins in this paper doll book is pretty close!

Starting in book 9, Sunny develops an interest in cooking. I thought I would go through the books and look for the food that Sunny makes. In this book, she helps to make tom ka gai soup. Lemony Snicket (the author/narrator) specifically mentions water chestnuts in the recipe which I didn’t really notice in any of the recipes I found online, but it did add a nice crunchy texture like the book mentions.

I made this recipe based on a bunch of others.
