The movie Big Hero 6 is really cool because the main characters are superheroes and scientists! That can be an inspiration for party activities and decorations. Go Go Tomago invents electromagnetic discs for her to skate with and throw. Honey Lemon is a chemist that throws chem balls that make metal brittle, make fog, and make foam. At the party you can do science activities. \"IMG_4205\" You can use these Popular Playthings Magnetic Match Rings<\/a>\"\" to demonstrate magnetic repulsion. We also did an experiment that tested ph (how acidic or basic a solution is) with cabbage juice. Instructions can be found here<\/a>.  I bought rolls of yellow, orange, and red stickers and drew the faces from Baymax’s pain scale. We had the kids take turns asking each other, “On a scale of one to 10, how do you rate your pain?” and play medic. Take a look at my Big Hero 6 board<\/a> on Pinterest for other cool science activities you could do with kids at parties.   \"IMG_3694\" You can make chem balls by filling up balloons with a small amount of water and hide them for the kids to find. They can see how far they can throw Go Go’s discs, which can be made from yellow plastic plates with red construction paper circles taped onto them.   \"IMG_3288\"\"IMG_3287\" As an additional activity for the kids, or as something you make ahead of time to give as party favors you can make bracelets from beads that look like Honey Lemon’s chem balls or Hiro’s microbots. I got the beads and clear elastic for these from Fire Mountain Gems. This is an American company, but they ship to Australia for a very reasonable fee. The microbots are two cone-shaped beads and a sphere bead strung together. The beads are Celestial Crystal\u00ae, glass,<\/a>  18-facet, metallic black, 16x8mm faceted and Hemalyke\u2122, 8mm round<\/a>. Sold per 16-inch strand. I strung the microbot beads with 1mm Powercord<\/a>.   \"IMG_3692\" Go Go’s discs were the inspiration for this cake as well. The red disc in the center can be made from rolled out red fondant, but I used Starbursts. They are much less expensive and are pretty easy to roll out if you microwave them for a very short time (less than 10 seconds). I got the perfect black circle on the cake by setting a bowl rim down on the cake and then carefully pulling the bowl off. This left a guide on the cake that I could use to draw the black circle with a store bought gel frosting tube. The yellow frosting was raised a little and I could slowly put the gel frosting against the edge.   \"IMG_3679\" You can make Baymax cupcakes quite easily with Oreos, M&Ms and black gel frosting.  Split an Oreo in half, but keep all of the cream filling on the side you will use, discard (eat) the left over cookie. Put 2 mini dark brown M&Ms on the Oreo and draw a line between them for Baymax’s face.   \"IMG_3677 The decorations for the party were inspired by Japan because Big Hero 6 takes place in a fictional city that is a cross between San Francisco and Tokyo. I used paper lanterns<\/a>. The paper balloons are kamifusen. I got these as prizes in Kinder eggs, but I have seen them in paper goods stores in North America. The mobiles are crocheted chem balls and discs similar to the decorations hung during the doll’s festival in Japan. For more information on Japanese culture you can visit JNTO<\/a>.
