If you haven’t seen Black Panther yet, you should go out and see it right now! I love it because Wakanda (Black Panther’s country) and all the characters are amazing! I especially love Shuri, Wakanda’s head scientist who is also T’Challa’s sister. Wakanda is the most technically advanced nation on Earth, but also one of the oldest cultures. It has an amazing mix of advanced technology and cultural influences of real countries in Africa.

The king drinks a potion made from the heart shaped herb to get his Black Panther powers. In the movie it is made from the purple flower of this plant. You can make your own drink for kids with Kool-Aid or Gatorade. I made the flower out of Fimo clay and attached it to an electric tea light. I attached the cooked clay with poster putty (blue tack). Don’t put the tea light in the oven! When you turn the light on the flower will glow like it does in the movie.

You can also make an adult version of this drink. I colored water with heated blueberries and then froze it to make purple ice. I used apple/black current juice and black raspberry liquor to make the drink. I put black grapes on a chop stick for garnish. I wanted these to look like the Kimoyo beads that the people of Wakanda wear.

I made some Kimoyo beads out of Fimo clay. Kimoyo beads are worn by all Wakandans. They are like iphones/fitbits. The one with the crystals records all the health information. I used bracelets that are being sold by RockLove Jewelry for the model for the symbols on the beads.

To make the symbols, I carved them into the beads with a small crochet hook. I rolled the silver clay into a very small roll and put it into the grooves on the bead. Make sure you make the hole in the beads large enough that your string will fit through.
