Song of The Sea Dinner

Song of The Sea Dinner

If you haven’t seen any of Cartoon Saloon’s movies, do yourself a favor and check them out! I think my favorite one is Song of the Sea, and that one is also the best one for younger kids. All their movies have a melancholy feel to them, but they are also packed with artistic detail and magic. I’ll try not to say much about the movie, but it involves faerie in Ireland.

The story starts with a little girl named Saoirse’s birthday party. You can see an image from the party table below.

I made those cupcakes, although mini chocolate chips may be a little better for them. I used crispy M&Ms on the top, but you could also use green maraschino cherries. I just drew the clover onto a white tea pot I had with a green Sharpie marker.

I made Saoirse in her white coat out of Fimo clay. I used the shimmery/pearl version of the clay. In the movie all of the rocks in the background remind me chocolate truffles.

Saoirse and her brother Ben meet a Faerie with very long hair, and lots of it! I used Angel hair pasta to represent that, the meatballs represent the rocks in the cave he lives in, and broccoli represents the trees in the forest above the cave. There are seals in this movie and that is why I have a little seal in jelly.

There is a witch in this movie that puts emotions in jars. The emotions look like clouds, suns, and rainbows. I made some ice cream sundaes based on the jars. I decorated the outside of the jar with frosting to look like clouds.
