IMG_0708My Favorite part of the Frozen holiday special that played before Coco, was the part that looked like knitting stop motion animation. It was all computer generated, but it was in pixels which made it perfect for knitting or cross stitch patterns. On Disney Animation’s twitter page, you can find a little short feature about how they made this segment. I used that as a guide to make my patterns. Before I saw that, I saw some enamel pins for sale at the Disney Store that were also in pixels. I used those first for a small cross stitch, but when I saw the other segment I knew I needed to make another one based on that.

First, here is the one based on the pins. This one has more of a Kawaii style, and took a bit longer because for each figure because the hair and outfits were much more complicated.

Here is the finished product that I sewed onto a muslin bag.IMG_0455

The second cross stitch summarizes the plot of the holiday special. Anna and Elsa get ready to celebrate their winter holiday with their subjects. They realize that everyone is celebrating in their own way with their own traditions. They don’t think they have any traditions of their own. In the end they realize that Anna always made Olaf themed presents for Elsa every year. That was Anna’s last memory of the girls playing together. So Olaf is their tradition.

You can see these patterns are much simpler that the previous ones. I need to outline Elsa’s hair and Olaf so the white stitching because the white embroidery thread doesn’t stand out enough from the cloth.

Olaf and the Goat

I made the goat in the center first and then worked around it to line everything up. You can make these in any arrangement that you want. You can always frame a cross stitch and you could even add a little boarder around the edge of this one. I wanted to make a little gift bag out of this one as well. You could fill it with little Scandinavian gifts for Christmas or Hanukkah. The mice are by Maileg (Danish), Dala horses are sold all over Sweden, and the top is by Aarikka (Finland).
