IMG_0699The March Kawaii box is here! I’ll look in more depth at the kit pictured above, but first we’ll look at what else was in the box.

There is a cute little Gudetama plush bag charm. There are a few different styles of these. I think some are more related to Easter, but this one has more of a spring theme. Also pictured here are some ear plugs and a case. I love this idea. Then you can carry a set around in case you encounter unexpected, very loud noises. It is very easy to permanently damage your hearing so this is a very helpful item.

There are more stationary items in this box. The little animal eraser is so cute. It is actually quite large, you can see the rest of it sticking out of the backpack in a picture a little further down in this post. The pen is really cute and so is the ruler. I like that the ruler becomes double the length and has stencils on it. It snaps nicely into place when you extend it to full length.

I really like the Jinbei San stickers this month! They are so cute. A few months back in one of the boxes we got a little plush bag charm to match these. The favorite item in this month’s box for my little Kawaii fans was this backpack coin purse. It is made really well. It is also a functioning (but very tiny) back pack. Plush toys can wear it to “go to school.” I have a Stitch toy wearing it here.

Here are the highlighters from last month and the eraser from this month that fit in it nicely.

The last two items in the box are these red envelopes and the candy kit. I am going to use the red envelopes to give out chocolate coins to kids next year for Lunar New Year. I have some Hello Kitty ones, but boys don’t usually appreciate those. These will work for both genders.

And now, the diy food kit! It’s been a while since we had one of these. They are so fun, I wish they’d put one in each Kawaii Box. It may be a little daunting if you can’t read Japanese characters, but I’ve always been able to find a video on line. This month’s kit makes little jelly rings. This kit is pretty simple. There are 3 powder packets. There is a big square compartment in the tray marked with the Japanese character for water, and that is what you put in there.

1 Empty the yellow packet in a microwavable dish. Add one cup of water from the tray. Mix, microwave for 10 -20s, mix again. Pour into the horse shoe shaped compartments and refrigerate for 30 minutes. You will have mix left over.

2 Remove the rings from the tray gently. Put them in the refrigerator while you do the next part. Prepare the blue and the pink packets the same way you did the yellow one. Pour the different colors into the decorative compartments however you want. You will have mix left over.

3 Fold the small yellow tray and set it in the compartment with the ring tops. Then gently set the ring bottoms into position on top of the ring tops. Put this in the refrigerator for one hour. Remove the rings and you can set them up in the little box that came with the kit.

*If you happen to have 2 or more of these kits, use 2 trays with the first set of powder packets, and then repeat later with the other set of powder packets. You can make double the number of rings this way. The mix sets pretty quickly even at room temperature, but I added a little splash of water and heated it again and used it a second time around to make more rings. *
